Trade shows and eCommerce

While eCommerce is by nature generally carried out online, trade shows are often the main opportunity for eCommerce business owners to connect directly with the public or, if you are in a business-to-business industry, with potential clients. For that reason, planning your trade show attendance schedule, making reservations, and and making necessary plans and purchases for your trade show booths should be done far in advance in order to assure a successful year.

Although not essential, using pipe and drape displays gives an especially professional presentation and helps to set your business display apart, preventing it from being lost among a sea of tables. Providing a smooth and unified backdrop helps to draw visitors' eyes into your booth and allows your materials to stand out from the background. Within the pipe and drape display, the exhibitor essentially has his own small shop, and can further personalize and unify the design by such methods as laying down a temporary flooring, etc.

If tables are a part of your display (and they almost always are) you will want to consider table skirts. Consider the colors used, first of all, and how well they will portray your business and your materials. A unified or complementary look is best. Having a clean-looking, professional background to your display attracts customer attention but doesn't compete with your show materials. You may wish to have a logo printed on your table cover, or perhaps have a specialty cover made that is appropriate for your type of business. And for some business types a pleated cover or one with a valance makes a particularly good impression. (These are especially appropriate for highly professional businesses, hospitality businesses, event businesses, services catering to women, etc.). Also, if your business is related to hospitality, decor, or women's interest, consider whether some type of lace over the skirting may give an especially charming impression. Finally, if your business is related to a theme, such as holidays, parties, vacations, etc., you may be able to find a themed skirting that sets the perfect tone for your display. For certain businesses, such as events (graduation or wedding related), high-level home decor, and others, you should pay very close attention to the quality of the fabric as the attention to detail in your display will give an impression of the quality of your service.

Another item to consider is available banner stands. These are so varied that it is difficult to make generalizations regarding their purchase and use. Some may be large enough to take the place of a pipe and drape system, creating walls or a backdrop for your booth. Much more personalization is available by using these for a backdrop, but make sure they do not end up creating a cluttered background that detracts from your presentation ... detailed banner walls are more appropriate for simple merchandise or service displays. Smaller banner stands can "greet" visitors for you out front and draw them into your booth. Versions that scroll and electronic versions are also available and are especially eye-catching. These are especially appropriate for technology-related businesses, but can also serve many other kinds. Also, specialty banner stands are available in cut-out shapes of full-color photographic displays that are VERY eye-catching and are great for drawing attention to your booth. Simple banner stands are also available that let you customize the display, and table-top versions can provide more information about your products and services as well.

A successful trade show means more contacts, more customers and clients, and more business for you, so plan carefully, stand out from the crown, let your booth represent your business well, and make the most of your opportunities!

There are some people who underestimate the usefulness of trade shows.
Many have given up on them. In fact, more and more business owners are pulling out
of trade shows. This is a wrong strategy. Instead of pulling out, they should think
of various ways of improving their booths. This way, they would have better shot at attracting
potential customers.
