Payment system stuff
As you know, PayPal pretty much dominates the Internet as an online payment system. It's advertising and marketing strategy with eBay has been so successful that no other online payment system came close so far.
Even when stormpay appeared and promoted heavily, many people opened their PayPal accounts. It has never been an alternative choice but is a must-have online payment system for any online business/shopping site.
When a rumor got bigger for Gbuy, however, eBay took it seriously and thought they could be a big rival for them. It turned out that Gbuy was not the official name, but Google Checkout was not intended for a competition with eBay, at least not yet.
It is critical for Google to step up and compete with eBay/PayPal for the share along with Froogle. We would have to see how Google is going to make a move.
